The shops in and around Watford are bracing themselves for Black Friday, the shopping phenomenon which has come across the Atlantic to take the UK by storm.
Professional sportsmen and women are renowned for keeping a cool head so we asked some of Watford’s finest to see if they would be getting caught up in the shopping mayhem.
To be honest we train in the morning and we travel after so its gonna be Traffic Friday.”
Well, last year on that date [my girlfriend] Zina was in London for holidays with her best girlfriend, I think. I was at home. This year, for sure, she will be again in London and I’ll be with her if I am not in the squad but hopefully I’ll go to Aston Villa with the team. I’ll do some shopping on my laptop in hotel then.”
I stay away from Black Friday at all costs. I hate shopping at the best of times so to go to a shop when everyone is rushing around and fighting for bargains is a no go for me.”
The wife is in charge of all shopping. She bought a hoover last year and we already have four hoovers in our house! As for her plans this year, probably another hoover!!”
We [at Fresh Ego Kid] have to do something. We don’t want to have a sale but we’ve been forced to as every other retailer is. Everyone one is going to go mental. I have a friend in Selfridges and they are hoping to bring in £2m in one day. It’s crazy. It’s Christmas commercialised to the max. I went into Selfridges to see my friend, I didn’t go in to buy anything. I had a meeting, had a look around and ended up buying something.”

While even a local golf club has got into the, ahem, swing of things…
