Quique Sanchez Flores has again demonstrated the unpredictable nature of his team selection by recalling Steven Berghuis and Ikechi Anya to the squad who travelled to the Midlands this afternoon ahead of the Premier League game with West Bromwich Albion.
Berghuis was named on the bench for the Premier League game at Arsenal but despite not playing a single minute against the Gunners, was then left out altogether of the squad for the home game with Everton the following week. The last three times he has been included in a league matchday have now all been away from home, following on from the unused substitute role at Chelsea on Boxing Day. The Dutch winger is yet to start a Premier League game and has played a total of 86 league minutes since signing from AZ Alkmaar.
Anya, meanwhile, thought he was pushing close for a first league start since December 28 when the squad was named for the game against Everton, after being afforded an increasing amount of game time in recent weeks. He was given four minutes against Manchester United, eight against Leicester, 17 away at Arsenal in the cup, the last 14 against Stoke and then 49 minutes at the Emirates stadium when Etienne Capoue. So, we understand, he was shocked when he missed out on the 18 at Vicarage Road last week. Yet he’s back in the fold this week and will hope to be pushing for a start.
The Twitter account @PicsWatford, which is a reliable source of information, is also claiming Craig Cathcart has not travelled for the game at The Hawthorns.
