Quique Sanchez Flores has opted not to make radical changes to the Watford squad for tomorrow’s Premier League game at Upton Park.
The head coach named his squad of 19 this afternoon for the match at Upton Park and there is no place in the squad for any member of the club’s regular under-21 team. There is no place in the travelling party for Alex Jakubiak, who has scored 19 times for Harry Kewell, or under-21 captain George Byers who some at the training ground hoped would at least be pushing for a place on the bench. Strangely, there is no spot in the squad for Sean Murray who looked to be edging towards being integrated into the first team after travelling to The Hawthorns at the weekend.
There is also no place in the squad for Obbi Oulare, the strapping Belgium Under-21 international who we understand has picked up a hamstring injury after ending a chronic lack of game time with two under-21 appearances in the space of five days last week. As we reported earlier, the game against the high-riding Hammers has come too soon in the rehabilitation of Joel Ekstrand and Tommie Hoban and they have not made the cut.
The head coach said this morning that Almen Abdi, Craig Cathcart and Jose Holebas are fit again and they will head to east London tomorrow.
Sanchez Flores has picked his squad for tomorrow with one eye on Sunday’s semi-final as he’s left behind three first-choice players with a view to keeping them fit and fresh for the crunch game with Crystal Palace at Wembley.
*We know the 19 and the three players left out but we feel it would be irresponsible to give West Ham the heads-up on Watford team news. We’ve revealed as much as we can without compromising the plans.
