How Twitter reacted to news Quique Sanchez Flores will leave Watford

Twitter is a lively, unforgiving place at the best of times but it was at its best (and worst) today when Watford confirmed, around 9.30am, that Quique Sanchez Flores would not be coaching the team next season. It almost difficult to keep up with what was being said, let alone by whom, such was the flurry of tweets. Watford, Quique Sanchez Flores and Walter Mazzarri were all trending at the same time. Watford really are now in the big league, there to be shot at.

Quique isn’t on Twitter (he’s more of a Facebooker, changing his profile picture with regularity) so below is a selection and a flavour of what’s been said throughout a tumultuous day.  There is never a dull moment with Watford, eh.

Paul Robinson never shirked a tackle and he wasn’t mincing his words here…

Miles Jacobson knows plenty. He maybe the supremo of Football Manager but he’s also virtually on the board at the club. Indeed, he sat in the directors’ box at Anfield on Sunday…

We must admit, ‘Oh, Walter Mazzarri’ (in the same way Arsenal sang ‘Oh Robin Van Persie’) won’t have quite the same ring to it as the Quique Sanchez Flores song.

There are lies, damn lies and statistics, apparently…

The perception of Quique inside and just outside Vicarage Road is very different to the one widely held, as these two contrasting tweet points out…

followed by one from a Watford fan…

Mike Parkin (he of From the Rookery End podcast fame) is always pretty bang on the mark with his views…

Yet that cut no ice with this user…

The run to the semi-final clouded matters, according to this fan…

It’s difficult to know who signed who but the point below is certainly valid for Jose Manuel Jurado and Nordin Amrabat…

We think Miles Jacobson was referring to Jurado, Amrabat and Suarez here…

This is a very valid point…

Remember the outbursts when Nigel Pearson was sacked?

Could Watford lose their top-scorer as well as their head coach this summer? Ighalo is certainly grateful for the role Sanchez Flores has played in his career..

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 18.51.42

Nice guy Ikechi Anya did the same…

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 19.52.34

Anya’s brother has not been short of an informed opinion or two this season…

There were moments of humour. This tickled us

On a more serious note, Quique’s successor looks nailed on and he’s got some big shoes to fill

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 19.59.12

More again from Miles Jacobson who, as we say, knows plenty about the inner workings of the club…

We’ll let this fan have the final say. Whatever your standpoint, whether you believe he lost the plot in the second half of the season or not, he will go down in the club’s history and deserves a good send off on Sunday…
