Quique Sanchez Flores met Sir Elton John for the first time today in what was his farewell appearance as head coach of Watford.
The club’s honorary life-president was at a Watford home game for the first time since November 2014, arriving in Occupation Road in a black people carrier before being ushered through the Players’ Entrance in the East Stand with his husband David Furnish and sons Zachary and Elijah.
From there he met owner Gino Pozzo, chief executive Scott Duxbury, some of the players and the head coach.
“I spoke with the owner and had the reception of Elton John before the match,” Sanchez Flores said. “He just said: ‘Hi, how are you? And congratulations.’ It is really nice. It’s the first time I’ve met him. I’ve admired him as a singer so it was an amazing experience.”
Sir Elton then took his place in the directors’ box, sitting behind Pozzo.
