Walter Mazzarri has dropped Matej Vydra from the Watford squad in a move that could push the Czech Republic striker closer to the exit door.
Mazzarri has opted to name the fit-again Isaac Success as the back-up striker on the bench and not even named Vydra as one of two travelling reserves in the 20-man squad. The decision is likely to lead Vydra to seriously consider his future at Vicarage Road and make you wonder why Mazzarri substituted him after 65 minutes on Tuesday and not give him the full 90.
Derby have made a bid for the player, reportedly worth £8.5m, but the club are still considering it as there is no desire to sell him. There are some at the club who believe Vydra still has a role to play this season but there is a lot of goodwill towards the player, who has been with the Pozzos since 2010 and a desire to do what’s best for his career. Whether Vydra stays will, we are told, come down to the player.
New signings Daryl Janmaat, Roberto Pereyra and Younes Kaboul are all in the squad but only one of them will start. Christian Kabasele is in a Premier League squad for the first time, with one of the 17 outfield players to miss out along with Rene Gilmartin.
