Walter Mazzarri feels new signings Roberto Pereyra and Younes Kaboul can energise his team.
Mazzarri is not short of options, leaving out summer signings Jerome Sinclair and Christian Kabasele, who cost a cool £5.8m, while two others, Isaac Success and Brice Dja Djedje, sat injured in the stands.
“In this moment these are the players I think are on top form,” he explained when asked about picking 16 of the players he inherited in the matchday 18. “It might be different in future weeks.”
Pereyra and Kaboul have not come to Vicarage Road to sit on the bench and they are sure to start once they are available. Kaboul should make his debut against Gillingham on Tuesday while Pereyra will be available to face on Arsenal on Saturday once his work permit is sorted on Wednesday. They were both presented to the fans on the pitch before kick-off.
“The two new players can help us a lot and improve a team which is already good,” Mazzarri said.
