Walter Mazzarri says it’s unlikely he will integrate his trio of new signings into the team to face Arsenal on Saturday.
Younes Kaboul and Roberto Pereyra were signed on the eve of the Chelsea game while Daryl Janmaat joined the club from Newcastle on Wednesday. They should all be in the 18-man squad to face the Gunners but Mazzarri seemed to rule out changing just under a third of his starting XI.
“I need to evaluate,” he said. “They have just arrived and I need to be sure they know what they need to do. They will be there, I’m not sure if they will start or play later. I want to start from the good things we did against Chelsea so it’s nearly impossible all three will start. I need to take into consideration the XI who played against Chelsea.”
Janmaat has more competitive minutes under his belt that Pereyra and Kaboul as he started two of Newcastle’s first three games.
“Everybody wants to play at the highest level, and that was a big thing that attracted me,” Janmaat said in an interview with the club website. “I believe in the squad here, the club wants to keep improving and I’d like to be part of that. Everybody knows the league is really tough. There are six or seven teams who fight for the title but the rest is a little bit the same. It’s going to be a tough season and we have to fight every week and make sure we get the 40 points as soon as possible.”
