Watford are on the verge of signing Stefano Okaka as a replacement for Matej Vydra, according to reports.
We know Watford are in the hunt for a striker and it appears that Okaka, the 27-year-old, is their man. Okaka has been capped four times by Italy and is currently at Anderlecht. The Pozzos and Walter Mazzarri will know him well as he’s played for seven clubs in Italy, including Sampdoria, Parma and Roma. If he signs he’ll very much be fourth choice.
The club have moved for Okaka to replace Vydra, who joined Derby in a club record deal, and to make sure they have firepower on the bench to keep Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo on their toes. The three league goals Watford have scored this season have all been from midfield.
A move for a striker would be Watford’s ninth summer signing and, unless something attractive presents itself, will conclude their summer incoming business. The next two days will be spent offloading the four foreign players who won’t make the 25-man squad, although they may just ship out Giedrius Arlauskis, Juan Carlos Paredes and Allan Nyom, and then just leave out Brice Dja Djedje and re-assess his situation in January.
