Watford are not looking to complete a deal for Sven Kums, the Belgian midfielder.
Reports in Belgium, which were repeated by local media, said the Hornets were closing in on the 28-year-old from Gent but a source with knowledge of the club’s transfer dealings has told us this evening there is no substance to the story that Watford are involved.
The Pozzos regularly use their network of clubs to sign players and then move them around on loan, particularly to help them gain visas, experience and increase their value, but it’s usually done with players of a younger age profile, as was the case with 18-year-old Adalberto Penaranda who will spend the season on loan at Udinese. Kums turns 29 in January and has probably peaked in terms of value at the £8.5m mark.
Watford are still looking to pull off one or two more deals before the window closes on Wednesday. “We had a talk yesterday [with Pozzo] and it all depends what happens in the next five days,” said Mazzarri.
