Former Manchester United forward Federico Macheda and ex-Barcelona defender Godswill Ekpolo are both on trial with the Hornets.
Macheda, who had his contract cancelled by mutual consent at Cardiff City last month, and Ekpolo, a right full-back who used to captain the Barca youth team, both played in the 4-2 defeat at Hull City yesterday.
Macheda, 25, played for 64 minutes of the Under-23 Professional Development League game and scored from the penalty spot before being replaced by Ola Adeyemi. Elohor Ekpolo, 20, played the full 90 and forced a good save late on from Hull keeper Will Mannion. Ogo Obi got the other goal for Harry Kewell’s side against a Hull team featuring former Man United forward Will Keane, whose brother Michael scored against the Hornets last night.
Ekpolo will certainly be one to keep an eye on. The former Barcelona youth team captain was released by the Catalans after 11 years with the team and apparently only missed out on a place in Nigeria’s Olympic team because he arrived late for the camp after refusing to pay for his flight ticket to their training camp in Atlanta.
