Daryl Janmaat will return to the Watford squad this weekend to help offset the blow of losing Isaac Success to injury.
Janmaat returned to training last week for the first time since injurying his shoulder against Manchester United – and he will be in the 18 to face Hull City, confirmed Walter Mazzarri.
“Janmaat is just a matter of deciding if he is ready to start or start on the bench,” said Mazzarri. “It is 99 per cent certain he will be available.”
Mazzarri has played Nordin Amrabat and Juan Zuniga at right wing-back in recent matches but it is difficult to think of a player better suited to getting up and down the right side of the team than the Dutchman.
“It is the ideal role,” said Mazzarri. “He will be ready and is one of the players who gives the most.”
Mazzarri went on to confirm our story yesterday that Success will miss at least the games against Hull City and Liverpool with a combination of a dead leg and a hamstring issue.
“Success won’t be available for Saturday’s game,” said Mazzarri. “We didn’t need it (the injury). It is unfortunate as he’s a player who gives us a lot of satisfaction. As a player and professional he has grown a lot on pitch and outside the pitch. We really didn’t need this [injury]. I am very sad. We don’t know when he will be back as, unfortunately, it’s not a slight injury. We’ll be able to be more precise after the international break.”
Craig Cathcart is still out with a hernia; Kenedy is “not training with the team at the moment” because of a knee problem while Stefano Okaka is “almost ready”, reports Mazzarri.
