Christian Kabasele revealed he and Stefano Okaka had to patch up their differences when they were reunited at Watford.
Back in May, in a Belgian Division One clash, Okaka was sent off after just nine minutes following an off-the-ball clash with Kabasele in the match between Genk and Anderlecht. An exchange in the box resulted in Kabasele rolling around on the floor clutching his head and Okaka in disbelief after being shown a straight red card. Genk went on to win the game 5-2.
In a twist of fate, the warring pair became the unlikeliest of teammates this summer after both were recruited from Belgium. “We both pulled a face that said a lot,” said Kabasele in an interview with Sport/Voetbalmagazine. “We shook hands like strangers when we knew full well what had happened the last time we met. It was funny. When he was at Anderlecht, he wasn’t my favourite player. I knew what I needed to do to get to him. He doesn’t like feeling an opponent’s breath on his neck. Now, I’m discovering another side to him. Before, I only knew the player. Now, I’m finding out about the man, and I can say he’s pretty cool.
“He’s nice and affable, he likes to get involved in discussions, even when he wasn’t part of it in the first place. I wouldn’t say he’s a friend, but I appreciate his company.”
