Younes Kaboul and Juan Zuniga have emerged as fresh injury doubts for Walter Mazzarri ahead of the game with Stoke City.
The central defender and Mazzarri’s trusted utility man have both missed training sessions this week and will need to undergo fitness tests before they can be considered for selection against the Potters.
“At the moment there is some doubt for Kaboul,” said Mazzarri. “He stopped training for a couple of sessions due to a knock. He should be available. Zuniga hasn’t been training with the team for three days, so he’s a doubt.”
While the potential loss of Zuniga is offset by the return of Jose Holebas, Mazzarri is grateful for the way Zuniga stepped in for the Greek defender against Leicester.
“Zuniga can play in different roles and I want to thank him especially as every time he has played he has given everything he has got,” said Mazzarri. “He played very well against Leicester.”
If Zuniga didn’t make it in time for Sunday’s clash, he would join a lengthening absentee list that includes Craig Cathcart, Isaac Success, Christian Kabasele, Kenedy and Brice Dja Djedje. Success was sent to Spain this week to get the all clear and, according to reports, he has returned to light training.
