Mazzarri bemoans his luck as Pereyra is latest injury worry

Walter Mazzarri says he’s “not happy” with yet another injury to his blighted team, this time one sustained by Roberto Pereyra. The head coach says he faces an anxious wait to find out the extent of the problem.

The Argentine appeared to get his studs caught in the turf after an innocuous first-half challenge with Pablo Zabaleta. He looked in some discomfort as a stretcher was called but he got up and soldiered on before collapsing in a heap soon after. He was replaced by Juan Zuniga and went straight down the tunnel.

“The problem is in the knee,” said Mazzarri. “We need to understand what it is exactly. We still don’t know. We will verify in the next few days. We have not been lucky with the injuries lately. It is not an easy moment for us. I am not happy with injury for Pereyra. Hopefully he will be back soon, I don’t know. I asked during the game if he felt a twist of the knee. They told me it was a knock and he went back on the pitch. Now I am not sure.”

Stefano Okaka missed tonight’s game with a hamstring problem but Craig Cathcart is part of the travelling squad for the games at City and Sunderland after recovering from a hernia operation.
