Walter Mazzarri hopes Watford will celebrate Christmas with three points on Boxing Day as he prepares to work for the first time in his career over the festive period.
“For me it’s a new experience and once it’s finished I’ll be able to tell you whether it’s a positive or a negative,” Mazzarri said. “‘I like the traditional Christmas, I don’t like anything different. We will hopefully celebrate Christmas on the 26th afternoon.”
This season is the first time Mazzarri has coached outside Italy. “During the break in Italy of course, depending on how many days you have, there is a law that says you have to give the players seven days off. We used to give eight or nine. When we came back from the small break we would start preparation for the next game.”
Watford’s players will train this morning, have lunch with their families this afternoon before reconvening at a Hertfordshire hotel this evening.
“We always should respect the traditions and on the 25th we will train in the morning and then the players will see their families,” the head coach said. “We will meet together for dinner and get ready for the next game. We want the players to be happy.”
