Steven Berghuis says he’s had no contact with Watford over a return to Vicarage Road and that he’s focussed on keeping Feyenoord at the top of the table.
Watford have the ability to recall the winger this month thanks to a clause inserted in his season-long loan move to the Dutch Eredivisie – and that prospect looked likely after Watford’s squad was ravaged by injury. The story gained even more momentum after Berghuis and Troy Deeney exchanged messages on Instagram.
But Berghuis says he’s in the dark over a swift return to the Premier League and seems happy playing regularly for the Dutch league leaders.
“I’m the same as all those people. I have also read, but I have heard nothing further from Watford,” Berghuis told. RTV Rijnmond . “That is an option, yes. But it’s totally not discussed or mentioned. I have not even thought about it.”
It’s not all been plain sailing for Berghuis back in his homeland. He started just one game in 12 before Giovanni Bronckhorst threw him in just prior to the winter break against AZ Alkmaar, Berghuis’ former club. The winger scored the first in a 4-0 win and then got two the following week against Vitesse Arnhem.
“I’m getting playing time and [we could] become champions,” he said. “We do well and I myself also picked up. I feel good. We have one goal and everyone wants to achieve that goal.”
