Juan Zuniga is a major doubt to face Stoke City on Tuesday night after he was withdrawn at the 11th hour from the squad to face Tottenham Hotspur.
Zuniga was set to play at right wing-back against Spurs but Walter Mazzarri’s plans were thrown into even more chaos when the Colombian became the latest player to be struck by the injury epidemic.
“This morning he was ok,” said Mazzarri. “He did the warm up and then when he started to travel with the ball, he felt pain in the left ankle. He tried to be available but unfortunately he couldn’t make it.”
Nordin Amarbat is also a fresh injury concern after he limped off against Spurs with a leg problem. He joins a list that includes Isaac Success, Stefano Okaka, Daryl Janmaat, Valon Behrami, Roberto Pereyra and Brice Dja Djedje, although the latter is not available anyway as he’s not been named in the Premier League squad.
“We are going to do some recovery at the training ground [this evening] and prepare for the game versus Stoke,” said Mazzarri. “We have 50 per cent less time to prepare than Stoke. They had more rest than us. It will be very difficult but I guarantee we will do everything possible to defend the badge.”
